Winter in Ibiza – The Party Continues
Are you thinking about Balearic Islands holidays? These isles in the Spanish Mediterranean are popular summer destinations, known for their balmy climate and nightlife. But consider continuing the party into the winter season. You won’t be disappointed.
Ibiza is one of the two Pine Islands of the Balearics, southernmost in the group, and sometimes known as the party capital of the world. But in winter, a slower pace is felt, and the natural life of the region can be experienced.
Weather during winter
The January temperatures average between 8-14 C, or 46-59 F degrees. These moderate ranges are perfect for outdoor activities. In fact the island foliage and flowers are at their best in the cooler air.
The annual blooming of the almond plantations near Santa Inés is a spectacular sight, blanketing the valleys in pink, and lasting up to five weeks. An annual moonlight walk among the blossoms is a local tradition in February.
During the winter, one can sense a change as the local Spanish culture is more evident. In Ibiza Town, the capital of about 30,000 population, you can sample local foods at the cafes, enjoy the Christmas decorations, and visit the Christmas Market on the Vara de Rey.
Winter is a perfect time for Balearic Islands holidays, when it is cool enough to enjoy bicycle tours or hiking. A number of walking routes of less than five miles are suggested by Ibiza Winter Tourism to take you past interesting sights such as the beach of Cala Mastella, the pirate tower of Es Vedra or the fortified village of San Miguel. Tour routes of Ibiza by car, electric car or train are also available to follow. Kite surfing, mountain biking and horseback riding are options for the more adventurous.
At the World Heritage sites of Dalt Vila, a medieval fortress rises above Ibiza. Various monuments, an ancient cemetery and the old city walls exude the air of centuries past. Although crowded in summer, during the winter months one can stroll the cobbled streets and breathe the historic atmosphere. The treasure cave, Cova d’es Culleram, yields the treasures of Cathaginian rulers for your enjoyment.
If you desire more speed or technology, there is a karting track in San Antonio, bowling in Elvissa, or the Paintball Lounge Party, also near San Antonio.
Clubbing, dining and shopping are always options for holidays to the Balearics, even in winter.
