Partying in Playa del Ingles

There are few destinations in Europe with a nightlife that can compete with Ibiza, but on the island of Gran Canaria there is a place that can compete. I am talking about Playa del Ingles and its vibrant nightlife.

With some of the world’s best club brands, Playa del Ingles is Gran Canaria’s place to party and, unsurprisingly, tends to attract a younger crowd but don’t let that stop you. If you have the stamina to keep going ‘til dawn, then get packing.

Check out our sister travel guide Gran Canaria Truth for more up to date info on Playa del Ingles and Gran Canaria.

Wondering if there is a cheap hotel in Ibiza that will get you close to Space—not as in outer space, mind you – but the famous San Antonio de Portmany nightclub? Turns out you can — and what’s more these delightful hotels we’ve found are on the beach!

Equipped with great facilities like swimming pools, show restaurants and fun lounges, you can find a budget launching pad for a trip to Space without sacrificing one iota of comfort.

1. If you figured finding a cheap hotel
where you can exercise, eat well and get plenty of beauty sleep was wishful
thinking, you’ll think again when you check into the Hotel Puchet.

Workout in their beautiful fresh water pool or organize a rousing game on their volleyball
court. Let the friendly staff indulge you with snacks and drinks while you rest
up in the shaded poolside loungers. Dive into the delicious buffet-style
restaurant’s free breakfast and a full dinner at reasonable prices. Enjoy
cocktail hour at the spacious lounge where you can challenge fellow travelers to
a round of video games, try your hand at the pool table or just watch
professional sports on the big-screen satellite TV. Sleep soundly in the
air-conditioned rooms with terraces overlooking the pool, free Wi-Fi and
private bathrooms with hair dryers. On top of all that, you’re only steps away
from the sandy beaches and swinging nightlife in San Antonio de Portmany,
although you may find it harder to leave this fun hotel than you thought!

2. Looking for an ideal Ibiza hotel where
you can indulge your family in all kinds of activities? Well, the Hotel Club
Mare Nostrum fits the bill with three swimming pools– two for adults and one
just for the kids – and the beautiful Playa d’en Bossa beach just steps away. The
hotel will even rent you a car, motorcycle or bicycle to check out the
surrounding countryside.

The well-appointed rooms have private balconies with wonderful views of the ocean
where you can relax after a long day while listening to music channels on the
TV.  Their entertaining “show cooking”
style restaurant lets you watch the chefs prepare the delicious dishes for the
buffet. Hang out in the lounge with its big screen television and full service
bar or check out the supermarket in the same building for some delicious
goodies to take along for tomorrow’s picnic.

3. Situated across the street from its posh
sister hotel, Marco Polo II gives you twice as much for your money since you
have access to amenities at both hotels. Reserve the Jacuzzi hot tub, check
your emails at the internet café and get tips from the tour desk about the best
nearby San Antonio de Portmany hotspots for dining, dancing and shopping.

The balconies in the clean air conditioned rooms look out over the pool and have private
bathrooms, satellite TVs, telephones and personal safes. During the height of
the summer season, this hotel is a favorite landing spot for the young crowd
who come to enjoy the swinging nightlife. During off-season it’s a wonderful
quiet place to unwind and soak up the Spanish sun.

Who would have suspected that this world
renowned seaside town would have so much to offer travelers on a budget? The
beauty of the cheap Ibiza hotels is all those unexpected perks that save you
even more money and make the stay at the hotel as much fun as getting out into
the happening scene at Space, one of the best rated clubs in the world!

No wonder the people of Madrid escape to Ibiza

No wonder why the people of Madrid travel en masse to Ibiza during the summer months. Read about what Diana thought about the public infrastructure during her last visit to the capital.

Madrid is a tourist mecca, and the fourth most visited city around :he European continent. With all of that it has going for it in terms of cultural events, monuments of note, and exquisite scenery, one would believe that it would be an ideal location for a summer holiday. Unfortunately, this is simply not the way it is. Speaking from recent experience, there are a few things about Madrid making it a rather difficult place to vacation. And you are warned, Madrid is not cheap either.

Public infrastructre was a mess

“Infrastructure issues” is actually a polite way of proclaiming that nothing works… pretty much ever. I was simply going out to visit one of Madrid’s top Indian restaurants. Boy, was I in for a surprise. If you are accustomed to coming to the train station, then buying a ticket, then waiting for the next train to arrive, the climbing on it and going to your destination, overcome that sequence of events now. That is only going to happen about 50% of the time in Madrid. The remaining time, be prepared to wait quite a long time to buy a ticket. Then cross your fingers that the train comes when it is meant to and goes where it actually says it will. Ditto for bus travel, courses at universities, and business transactions.

Do not be tempted to use baby oil to get a deep sexy tan

Been hanging around the beaches of Ibiza this summer? Have you seen a lot of bronzed beauty?

I have noticed some recklessness as well.

There are several dangerous trends in our society. One of them is getting a tan with the baby oil tanning-method.

Several women has been observed on Ibiza’s sandy beaches with a bottle of Johnson’s Baby Oil by their side. Yes, they look delicious and bronzed. However it is dangerous to fry their skin in that way.

To combine your regular tanning cream with olive oil to achieve the olive oil tan is a safer option to get a deep tan.

An alternative choice is to consume plenty of Beta Carotene pills in the weeks leading up to your holiday.

A much more organic way to get a tan would be to eat lots of carrots!

A chic beach destination? Sounds familiar, right? Yes, but this is not Ibiza. I am talking about the Greek island of Skiathos.

In the sixties and seventies, Skiathos was the chic destination of choice for many actors, rock stars and other celebrities.  The island remains a popular port of call for breathtakingly expensive yachts and the impressive roll call of visitors to have dropped anchor here in recent years includes an array of A-list stars and royalty. Very similar to Ibiza!

Please feel free to visit our sister site, Skiathos Truth – Your Skiathos Guide.

Famous people who have been visiting Skiathos includes:

- Goldie Hawn, D&G, several of the Greek jet-set.
